Much of the information in the Sprite/midget info pages will be applicable to A40's. It uses many parts that are interchangeable but a few to watch out for are listed hereMetro HIF Carb and heated manifold
This a fairly straight forward mod but there are a few things to think about.
The exhaust manifold you either have to cut the inlet part of the manifold off of the exhaust manifold or and this is what I tend to go for is buy a tubular exhaust manifold.
Check the thickness of the flanges where they bolt to the head, these are rearly the same, file or grind them to match the original.Metro HIF Electronic distributor
This is a bit tricky, you'll need the drive shaft and housing bits.
Brakes dual circuit master cylinder
Try the 1979 onwards mini one - connect the lower outlet to the front brakes and the upper to the rear.
Rear shocks
Spax
standard - 451 11sc adjustable - g107-164
Half-shaft
A40 shafts looks the same but
Sprite ones are 22 5/8" from inside flange face to end of shaft
and A40 ones are 23 7/8"
and Morris 1000 longer again
The splines are the same and the diffs are interchangeable giving you a varied choice from 4.22 - 3.9 - 3.7 - 3.5 i.e. Morris 1000, A30-40, Wosley 1500, Sprite and Midgets
Front suspension - kingpins/hub assy - disc brakes
Early A40's share the early spridget (drum brake ver) kingpin assembly but later ones use later spridget (disc brake ver) kingpins which have a lager diameter but still use drum brakes, this does however mean it's easy to fit disc brakes just by swapping hub assemblies the same can be done on earlier models but this does mean you have to change kingpins and thus probably wishbones.
Outer steering control arms
Use a piece of studding and two mini track rod ends - make sure you set the length the same as the original and check or get your tracking checked.
Windscreen demister
If yours doesn't seem to work very well this may help. If it doesn't seem to be passing much air first check that the bottom flap is shutting off the footwell vent properly if that's ok then check that the flexible hoses are connected from the heater to the demisters, these do fall off and after need cable ties to hold them on.
Usually this is due to the leaks in the standard system so the first thing to do is take the top of the dash off, then seal the gaps around the vent itself, the dash/vent joint and the vent/pipe joint. There will be quite a few gaps as the vent is made up of a piece of hardboard and two pieces of formed cardboard stapled together.
Use silicon to fill in any gaps you find in the vent Use Silicon to seal the vent when you fit it back on the dash. For new and second hand parts, info or help of any kind try Paul at Meacam Spridgetts (yes I know their call Spridgetts but they had 9 complete A40's plus loads of spares) tel. 01793 845757 they are very helpful.
