BRAKES
 
GENERAL
    - IF YOU INCREASE THE MASTER CYLINDER BORE THIS WILL PUSH MORE FLUID INTO THE SYSTEM FOR ANY GIVEN MOVEMENT BUT WILL REDUCE THE PRESSURE - SO THE PEDAL PRESSURE YOU HAVE TO APPLY IS INCREASED, BUT MOVEMENT REDUCED.
    - IF YOU REDUCE THE MASTER CYLINDER BORE THIS WILL REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF FLUID PUSHED INTO THE SYSTEM FOR ANY GIVEN MOVEMENT BUT WILL INCREASE THE PRESSURE, SO THE PEDAL PRESSURE YOU HAVE TO APPLY IS REDUCED, BUT MOVEMENT INCREASED.
    - IF YOU REDUCE THE SIZE OF THE SLAVE CYLINDER THIS WILL REDUCE THE BRAKING EFFORT FOR A GIVEN PRESSURE. THUS LESS PEDAL MOVEMENT BUT MORE PRESSURE .
    - IF YOU INCREASE THE SIZE OF THE SLAVE CYLINDER THIS WILL INCREASE THE BRAKING EFFORT FOR A GIVEN PRESSURE. THUS MORE PEDAL MOVEMENT BUT LESS PRESSURE REQUIRED TO STOP.

    SO WHAT USE IS ALL THIS?
 
    - IF YOU CAN EASILY LOCK UP FRONT AND BACK WHEELS WHEN HOT OR COLD THEN LEAVE THEM ALONE.
    - IF THEY'RE FINE COLD BUT FADE (REQUIRE MORE AND MORE) PRESSURE AS THEY GET HOTTER THEN CHANGING CYLINDER SIZES ISN'T THE ANSWER LOOK AT BRAKE COOLING, OR FITTING BIGGER, THICKER OR VENTED DISCS (ROTORS) OR DRUMS THESE WILL DISSIPATE THE HEAT BETTER.
    - IF YOU FIND THE WHEELS LOCK TOO EASILY OR THE PEDALS TO SENSITIVE INCREASE THE MASTER CYLINDER BORE SIZE.
     - IF YOU FIND YOUR REAR WHEELS LOCK UP BEFORE YOUR FRONTS YOU WANT TO REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF BRAKE TO THE REAR, YOU NOW HAVE A NUMBER OF CHOICES REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF PAD/SHOE MATERIAL ON THE REAR OR SWAP THE REAR CYLINDERS FOR SMALLER ONES. OR FINALLY IF YOU TWIN BRAKE CYLINDERS AND YOU'VE RAN OUT OF FRONT BIAS (ASSUMING IT'S ADJUSTABLE) FIT A BIGGER BORE REAR MASTER CYLINDER.
    - MAYBE YOU'VE FITTED BIGGER CALIPERS OR SWAPPED 2 POTS FOR 4 POTS, NOW THE BRAKES WORK BUT THE PEDALS ON THE FLOOR BECAUSE OF THE ADDITIONAL AMOUNT OF FLUID YOU NEED. NOW YOU GO TO A BIGGER MASTER CYLINDER THIS MAY HAVE THE CORRECT EFFECT.
    - AND SO ON....

TANDEM BRAKE MASTER CYLINDERS ARE AVAILABLE U_GMC170 A SPECIAL PUSH ROD  MUST BE MADE UP WHICH IS 93mm FROM PIN CENTRE TO END

 CONNECT THE FRONT TAKE OFF TO THE FRONT BRAKES AND THE REAR TO REAR

 MASTER CYLINDER SEAL KIT -
 
 
    FRONT DRUM BRAKES
 
    IF YOUR A FROGEYE (BUGEYE) OWNER AND YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR FRONT BRAKES BUT DON'T WANT TO USE DISC FIT AUSTIN A40 FARINA FRONT BRAKES THEY ARE 8" INSTEAD OF 7". IF YOUR JUST GOING TO CHANGE THE HUB ASSY CHECK THE KINGPIN DIAMETERS EARLY A40 ONES ARE THE SAME A FROGEYES BUT LATER ONES ARE THE SAME AS LATER SPRIDGETS AND HAVE A LARGER DIAMETER ONE END.
    ALTERNATELY YOU COULD JUST FIT LATER DISC BRAKES, AS SAID BEFORE THEY HAVE KINGPINS WITH A LARGER DIAMETER SO YOU NEED TO FIT LATER ONES.

    DON'T SIMPLY FIT THEM AND ASSUME IF THE FIT TOGETHER THEY'RE RIGHT, MEASURE THE 2 KINGPINS AS THE SMALLER PINS FIT IN LATER HUBS BUT WOULD BE DANGEROUS.

    LARGER DISC AND CALIPERS ARE AVAILABLE FROM PETER MAY ENGINERING LTD
 
 
    REAR BRAKES
 
SHOES
    USE MINI FRONT SHOES INSTEAD OF THE STANDARD SHOE THESE ARE THE SAME SHAPE BUT 1.5" WIDE INSTEAD OF THE 1.25" OF THE ORIGINALS, YOU MAY HAVE TO FIT NEW DRUMS AS YOUR NOW USING PART THAT MAY HAVE RUSTED BADLY.

CYLINDERS
    METRO REAR CYLINDER HAVE SMALLER DIA BORE BUT WILL REQUIRE A NEW LOCATION PIN HOLE DRILLED IN EITHER THE BACK PLATE OR CYLINDER AS IT'S OPPOSITE TO STOP YOU FITTING THE WRONG ONE!
 
 
    ODDS
 
USE 'R' CLIPS INSTEAD OF SPILT PINS ON MASTER CYLINDER CLEVIS PINS.
 
REAR BRAKE CYLINDER CIRCLIPS  -  KITS USUALLY CONTAIN THE 'E' TYPE CIRCLIP BUT A NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THESE FALL OFF SO WE NORMALLY REPLACE THEM WITH STANDARD EXTERNAL CIRCLIPS AND A NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAVE TAPPED OUT THE LOCATION PIN HOLE THEN OPENED UP THE HOLE IN THE BACK PLATE AND BOLTED IT IN.
